What is the UPside service and the UPside prepaid card?
UPside is a money management service that comes with an UPside Visa Prepaid Card and an online virtual check book. You can receive funds through direct deposit or cash loads at more than 50,000 retailers nationwide. Because it's prepaid, your spending is limited to the amount of money received on the account. All purchases and payments that you make with your UPside card are decremented from your available balance in real time. And, unlike most other prepaid cards, you will earn reward points redeemable for cash back for all your online purchases made at leading US retailers through our shopping mall.
The UPside prepaid card account has lower fees than other spending cards available. And the majority of these fees can be avoided by managing your card correctly - checking your balance online, loading funds from an employer or from a checking account, making sure you always have suitable funds on your prepaid card account. Please see the Terms and Conditions for more information on our low fees.
Why would I sign up for UPside instead of a traditional checking account or credit card?
Unlike other banking products, UPside is a great real-time budgeting tool for your spending, as you can only spend the funds available on the prepaid card account - meaning that you will not go into debt like many do with credit cards or "overdraft protection" plans that most retail banks offer. And, with UPside, you do not pay for incoming loads, unlike with most retail banks. Anyone can register, even with poor or no credit. UPside is the most powerful and effective means to help you develop responsible spending behaviors, while still having the freedom to shop everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted.
The UPside service and UPside prepaid card are operated by Plastyc Inc, based in New York, NY. The UPside Visa Prepaid Card is issued by Metabank in Sioux Falls, SD.
I have not received emails from UPside?
If you did not receive emails from UPside within 10 minutes please check your spam filter and add uspide.visa@upsidecard.com to your trusted senders or safe list. In some cases html content is marked as spam by some email providers. Be sure to check your spam folder.
If you are over 18, you can register for the UPside prepaid card. There is no fee involved or money needed to register, but you will need a Social Security Number for verification of your date of birth. To begin registration, click here.
Whose name is embossed on the card?
The name of the cardholder is embossed on the card.
The card is sent to the billing address provided at enrollment. If a debit/credit card is used to fund the prepaid account, for security purposes, we always ship the UPside card to the billing address of that same credit card. Please note that we cannot ship to PO Boxes.
How long does it take to receive my UPside card once I've registered?
Once enrollment is completed you should receive your card within 7-10 business days. Please note that the card comes in a plain white envelope with UPside in the top left corner.
I received my card. How do I activate it?
You can activate your card from your online card account or by calling our customer service number at 866-845-6273. You will need your Customer Service Access Code (CSAC) or last four digits of your SSN. Remember, if you activate online you will receive 500 cash back points!*
*Online activation must occur within 60 days of enrollment to receive cash back points.
I have not received my card in the specified time. What do I do?
If you registered with UPside more than 10 business days ago and you have not yet received your card, please call customer service at 866-845-6273 or email us at cs@upsidecard.com.
Where can I use the UPside card?
You can use your UPside Visa Prepaid Card anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, both online and in physical stores. You may also withdraw cash at ATM terminals with the Visa or Interlink logo (not available on the Clear plan).
Who can use the UPside card?
Only the cardholder whose name is on the card may use the card.
Can someone else use my UPside card?
Absolutely not. Keep your UPside card, including the card account number, under your control at all times. And do not tell anyone your PIN, not even your best friend.
How do I use the UPside card in a store?
When swiping the card at a retail store terminal, choose either "credit" or "debit". If you choose credit you can simply sign the receipt - if you chose debit you just need to enter your PIN number (which you get by calling customer service and can change after activating and registering your card.) Please note, not all merchants accept PIN transactions. If that is the case, just select credit and simply sign the receipt.
How do I use the UPside card online?
You can use your UPside Visa Prepaid Card online anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. When checking out, enter your billing information as asked. The billing address is the address you provided at registration. If you would like the merchandise shipped to another address, enter shipping information accordingly.
Can I use the card to withdraw cash?
Yes. You may withdraw cash from any ATM where you see the Visa debit or Interlink logo, using your card and PIN (personal identification number). Insert your card into the machine, enter your PIN, and press the cash withdrawal option. You will then be prompted to choose an account from which you want to withdraw funds; select credit card cash advance, enter the amount, and receive your cash. You can withdraw up to $400 for a single withdrawal and up to $500 in a 24-hour period.
You can also withdraw cash at the POS register for free (cash back) up to $60/transaction and up to 15 cash back transactions/month. Please note that your transaction must be equal to or greater than the amount you are requesting for cash back.
Please note ATM and POS cash back withdrawal is not available in all countries. For a list of these countries, contact us at cs@upsidecard.com.
Will I be charged for transactions at specific merchants?
No. There are no fees attached to spending money on your UPside Visa Prepaid Card.
Can I track my transactions for any period?
Yes. For cardholders, we have automatically provided transaction logs for the last 30 days and 60 days, available on the transaction section of your online card account. If you would like to see transactions for another period, click the Statement tab and follow the directions.
How can I find my balance?
You are able to check your balance in four ways: - Online by logging onto your online card account
- By calling customer service at 1-866-845-6273
- By using your cell phone's internet browser and logging into your prepaid account at m.upsidecard.com (cardholders only)
- From your Facebook UPside Application (cardholders only)
Can I make a purchase larger than my balance?
No. You cannot access more than the available balance on your UPside card. However, if you know your available balance before you make a purchase, you may ask the merchant if you can pay the balance of your purchase with cash or another form of payment.
Are there purchase limits to the card?
You can make purchases up to $1000 per transaction (or up to the card balance if there is less than $1000 on your card), and up to twelve transactions in a 24-hour period.
How do I return a purchase?
We advise that you keep all of your receipts until your transactions are posted on your online card account. Should you need to return an item, return the purchased item to the merchant with the receipt. The merchant will process a credit back to your prepaid card account for the value of the returned item. The credit should appear on your online card statement usually within a week of the return.
How do I dispute a transaction?
In order to dispute a transaction, please call customer service at 866-845-6273 and speak to a live agent. You will need the transaction date and amount. They will provide you via email with a dispute form to fill out.
What are my rights if I dispute a charge?
Federal law may limit your liability for unauthorized use, but it may not provide for no liability. Under the Visa Zero Liability Policy, you may incur no liability for unauthorized use of your card provided you notify us within a reasonable time of the loss or theft of your card or its unauthorized use. Please refer to the Cardholder Agreements Terms & Conditions for additional information pertaining to your rights concerning unauthorized use of your card.
Why does the amount of the transaction on my card account not match the amount I was expecting it to be?
For financial transactions at certain types of merchants, such as restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and mail order retailers, there is an authorization amount and a settled amount and these amounts are usually different. This occurs when the actual amount of your purchase is not immediately available; for example, you may add a tip to the restaurant bill, you may pump gas yourself at an automated pump, you may decide to extend your stay in a hotel room or the use of a rental car.
For example, this will occur when you use your UPside Visa Prepaid Card at a restaurant. The transaction is authorized for an amount greater than the actual amount because the restaurant does not know yet if you are going to add a tip to your bill after it is run through the system. Therefore, if the actual amount of your restaurant bill is $15, the restaurant may actually authorize it for $20. $20 is the authorization amount that will initially be deducted from your UPside card account. If you add a 15% tip to your bill ($2.25), the actual amount of your bill will be $17.25. When the merchant sends through the actual bill, the settled amount will be $17.25 and the difference between the authorization amount ($20) and the settled amount ($17.25) will be added to your available balance. If the settled amount is greater than the authorization amount, then the difference will be deducted from your available balance. Depending on the merchant, the adjustment could take a few days.
If a merchant does not send in a settled amount within a specified number of days (specified by the Issuer), the authorized amount of the transaction (in the example above this would be $20) will be added to your available balance. See next question for more information.
Will merchants hold funds greater than the purchase?
As mentioned above you need to remember that some merchants hold a reserve of more money than what you may actually mean to spend. If this does occur with your UPside prepaid card the system may hold this reserve amount up to 4 business days. In some instances a hold could take up to 15 days to fall off. If this happens, please contact merchant to verify that they are OK to release the hold on your card and ask them to send us a fax at 718-228-8178 with a written statement (including card number, amount, date, and transaction reference number) that they renounce the hold and that we can remove it sooner than the hold period.
Can I use the card internationally?
Yes. The UPside Visa Prepaid Card is accepted at most merchants worldwide accepting Visa Debit. Please note that the UPside card may not be able to be used in all countries. For a list of excluded countries, please contact us at cs@upsidecard.com.
What is my Customer Service Access Code (CSAC)?
Your Customer Service Access Code (CSAC) is a four-digit number that is used to identify you when you contact customer service. Cardholders' CSAC is the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
How do I get my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?
Your PIN will be selected automatically for you when you register online. You will get your PIN information when you activate your card. You are, however, able to change your PIN at any time (see below).
Yes. You may change your PIN by calling Customer Service at 1-866-845-6273. You may change your PIN once at no cost. Any subsequent changes of your PIN will be charged a fee.
What should I do if I've forgotten my PIN?
Please call customer service at 866-845-6273 and follow the automated prompts to "To hear or change your PIN."
What do I do if the card is lost or stolen?
Please call customer service immediately at 866-845-6273 to mark your card lost/stolen and have a new card shipped.
Can I suspend the card and reactivate it later?
Yes. You can suspend your card at any time online or by calling customer service. Please contact customer service to unsuspend your card.
How do I close my card account?
We recommend that you remove all of the funds remaining on the prepaid card account by making an ATM withdrawal or purchase goods or services in a merchant transaction so you do not incur any of the account closure or check issuance fees. If you would like to close your account immediately with funds remaining, you may request a check by contacting customer service, in which case a $12 check issuance fee and account closure fee may be applied.
How can I receive funds to my UPside card account?
You can receive funds from your employer or benefits provider through free Direct Deposit or you can load cash by purchasing a Green Dot MoneyPak located at one of 50,000 retailers nationwide. Friends or family can also use your Direct Deposit information to load funds to your card account from their own bank account. Eligible cardholders can also load funds directly from a credit/debit card (funding card must match your UPside card billing address) after you have had your card activated for three or more months and have received at least $1000 via Direct Deposit. Click here for more information on how to load funds.
Please note that if loading funds from a bank account that the funds must be an ACH source, not a wire transfer (request this with your funding bank).
Can I get a direct deposit number and routing number to give to an employer or benefits provider?
You are able to get Direct Deposit information by logging into your online card account and clicking on the Direct Deposit tab in the funding window. You will need to print this information and give it to your employer. This information may also be used for other family members or friends that would like to load funds to the prepaid card account, perfect for birthdays and special occasions.
How long does it take until the funds appear on the balance provided by UPside?
Funds originating from a credit or debit card appear immediately upon loading. Loads from ACH/bank load can take up to 5 days. If the funding source does not have enough money, the load will be denied.
What do I do if I've loaded funds and they have not appeared on my balance yet?
If it has been over 5 business days for an ACH/DDA bank load to appear on your prepaid card account balance, contact the funder/funding bank and make sure they have used your correct direct deposit information and that the funds have been transferred. If yes, please contact customer service cs@upsidecard.com.
Pricing and value load limits.
Where do I purchase a MoneyPak?

Are there any fees attached to buying or redeeming a MoneyPak?

How to I redeem a MoneyPak?
You can redeem a MoneyPak directly from your online card account after you have logged in. Enter your MoneyPak PIN in the Cash tab of the funding window. You may also enter your MoneyPak PIN on your UPside mobile website at m.upsidecard.com
If you have loaded cash through the MoneyPak network directly from the cashier at 7-Eleven, your funds will load within 10 minutes. You do not have to redeem anything on our website.
If you go to a 7-Eleven store, you have the option of either buying a MoneyPak or doing a "swipe load" without buying a MoneyPak to load cash. For a swipe load, simply take your UPside card and cash to the register and tell the cashier that you like to make a Green Dot Swipe Load. The cashier will swipe your card and add your cash directly to your UPside card. A service fee of $4.95 will be charged.
Are there any limits to how many MoneyPaks I redeem or how much I load?

Some merchants request that you wait for up to one hour before redeeming your MoneyPak. If you have loaded cash through the MoneyPak network directly from the cashier at 7-Eleven, your funds will load within 4 hours.
If it has been longer than one hour, please contact GreenDot directly at www.moneypak.com.
My funding source details have changed, what do I do?
You are not able to change your credit/debit funding card information, except for the expiration date and CVV2 when you receive a new card. You can do so from your online card account.

If your main card account balance has become insufficient to pay the monthly maintenance fee for your account, the missing amount will be automatically withdrawn from the Reserve to cover the fee.
I was not able to withdraw funds from an ATM though my balance shows I have enough.

In order to withdraw funds, you will need to find your main card account balance, either by logging into your card account online or cell phone browser. You can then withdraw funds up to that amount.

eBillme is available to any cardholder who is 18 or older and in good standing for 3 months and has loaded $1000 or more. The eBillme window will appear on your online card account automatically at that time.
eBillme is a third-party service provider that allows cardholders to receive payments from almost any bank account. You can use this service to get funds from family members, friends or even customers.
Many traditional banks don't allow online money transfers to an individual's bank account; most BillPay services allow transfers only to utility companies, insurance companies, etc. If you need to receive money from family members, friends, or customers, eBillme is a simple way to receive that money without the sender of the funds having to go to their local bank branch and wait in those tiresome lines.
You send a request to the funder directly from your UPside online card account. The sender of the funds will receive an email that is unique to your request with a clickable link to eBillme. Once on the eBillme website, the sender of funds will enter their information to receive bank transfer information for eBillme. They will then go to their banking website and use that bank's BillPay service, just like paying a utility bill. Once the payment clears, you will receive your funds.
Can a funder send money without a request being made?
No. Though technically they can initiate a debit from their bank account, the credit will not go through to the card and will be refunded back to the funding account.
How long does it take to receive funds?
Funds usually take 1-3 days to clear after the funder has requested the debit from their bank account. But, funds can take up to 5 days to clear if the bank requires a physical check to be sent instead of ACH transfer.
If you have not received your funds, please speak with the funder to make sure they have debited the funds from their bank account. If they have, advise the funder to contact eBillme directly at 1-888-899-6633 or go to their live chat.
Does my funds request ever expire?
Yes, if the funder has not completed the request within 14 days, the request will expired. You can send another request at that time.
Did not find your answer?
If you do not find your answer, please contact eBillme's customer service directly at 1-888-899-6633 or go to their live chat.

UPside includes an alert service when the balance reaches a preset threshold or is zero ($0). Further alerts are coming soon, including weekly spending thresholds and single purchase limits. As well, you are only able to spend the amount of money loaded on the prepaid card account.

If I use my cell phone to check the balance of my card on a regular basis, is there a risk that someone would finds or steals my cell phone would be able to access and use my card?
No. Even if your cell phone falls in the wrong hands after you have stored and bookmarked in your phone the URL to access your card account, the phone will only enable someone to reach the login page, where the password is requested to go any further. Your password is never stored by the phone. Even if someone could guess your password, they would only be able to know how much money is left in the card, but would not be able to spend any of that money, since the phone access does not include money transfer or payment options.
