U The UPside card is a prepaid, reloadable spending card; like a prepaid phone card or a store gift card that you can use everywhere Visa Debit is accepted. Because it's a prepaid card, your spending is limited to the amount of money sent to your card. The purchases that you make with your UPside card are decremented from your available balance. Your family or employers are able to reload funds onto the card when needed. And, unlike most other reloadable spending cards, the UPside card provides you with reward points for cash back onto your card.
U Unlike a credit card, the UPside Visa Prepaid Card does not have a line of credit. Therefore, you are unable to go into debt or spend more money than your balance. It is a great solution to help get yourself out of credit card debt, and anyone with poor or no credit can register.
EAC The UPside Visa Prepaid Card can be used as a budgeting tool for your child’s spending. With UPside, your child and you decide together the amount to spend. With immediate access to online statements, your child can review his/her spending along with you, and together discuss how they can develop and maintain financial responsibility in spending decisions, using our educational tools provided. As well, with instantaneous funding, you have the peace of mind that your child will never be without money in an emergency. The UPside card is the most powerful and effective means to help develop responsible spending behaviors, while still having the freedom to shop everywhere Visa is accepted.
U The UPside Visa Prepaid Card can be used as a budgeting tool for your spending, as you can only spend the funds available on the card – meaning that you will not go into debt like many do with credit cards or negative balance like many retail banks allow. And, with UPside, you do not pay for incoming funds loads, unlike most retail banks. Anyone can register, even with poor or no credit. The UPside card is the most powerful and effective means to help you develop responsible spending behaviors, while still having the freedom to shop everywhere Visa is accepted.
U UPside Clear, Access and Edge – The card account owner may load funds onto the card online or by calling customer service. Funds may come from either a checking account or credit card in the name of the card account owner. The cardholder is able to share their DDA transfer information with family, friends and employers.
UPside Life cardholders are able to load funds directly from their online account via a credit/debit card load (funding card must match UPside card billing address). They are also able to share their DDA transfer information with family, friends and employers.
U The UPside Visa Prepaid Card has lower fees than other spending cards available. And the majority of these fees can be avoided by managing your UPside card correctly – checking your balance online, loading funds from an employer or from a checking account, making sure you always have suitable funds on your card. U UPside services are operated by Plastyc Inc, based in New York, NY. The UPside card is issued by Metabank in Sioux Falls, SD as a prepaid Visa card.
U For Clear, Access and Edge, unlike most of our competitors, either the cardholder or card account owner is able to begin registering for an UPside Visa Prepaid Card. The card account owner must complete the registration before the card can ship.
If you are over 18, you can register for the UPside Life card. There is no fee involved or money needed to register, but you will need a Social Security Number for verification of your date of birth. To begin registration, click
here.
U The card is sent to the billing address provided at enrollment. When a credit card is used to fund the card, for security purposes, we always ship the Upside card to the billing address of that same credit card. Please note that we cannot ship to PO Boxes.
EAC You should receive your card within 10 business days after registering.
L You will need to load funds onto your card via Direct Deposit before we send your card. You can find your Direct Deposit information on your online card account at
www.upsidecard.com in the Fund My UPside Card window. This must be done within 45 days of registering. Once you have loaded your card, you should receive it within 10 business days. If you do not fund your card within 45 days your card account will be automatically closed and your card will not ship.
U You can activate your card by calling 1-866-845-6273 from your home telephone. Card account owners will need the last four digits of their SSN and cardholders will need their four-digit Customer Service Access Code (CSAC) created at enrollment (last four digits of SSN for Life cardholders).
Card account owners will create their online card account at this time by going to
www.upsideaccount.com.
U If you registered with UPside more than 10 business days ago and you have not yet received your card, please call customer service at 866-845-6273 or email customer service at
cs@upsidecard.com.
EACIn order to change plans, you will need to do the following:
- Log into your online card account at www.upsideaccount.com.
- Re-register the cardholder for your desired plan by selecting “Sign Up New Cardholder.” A new card will ship.

U You can use your UPside Visa Prepaid Card anywhere Visa Debit is accepted, both online and in physical stores. You may also withdraw cash at ATM terminals accepting Visa Debit.
U Only the cardholder whose name is on the card may use the card. All cardholders must be at least 13 years of age to get an UPside Visa Prepaid Card.
U Absolutely not. Keep your UPside card, including the card account number, under your control at all times. And do not tell anyone your PIN, not even your best friend.
U The card account owner (usually a parent) is able to load funds onto the card and monitor spending done by the cardholder.
The cardholder is able to make purchases using his/her UPside card, load funds from their own existing credit/debit card, send DDA load details to family and employers, monitor spending and rewards account, and send money to other UPside users.
U When swiping the card at a retail store terminal, choose either "credit" or "debit". If you choose credit you can simply sign the receipt - if you chose debit you just need to enter your PIN number (which you get by calling customer service and can change after activating and registering your card.) Please note, not all merchants accept PIN transactions. If that is the case, just select credit and simply sign the receipt.
U You can use your UPside Visa Prepaid Card online anywhere Visa is accepted. When checking out, enter your billing information as asked. The billing address is the address you provided at registration. If you would like the merchandise shipped to another address, enter shipping information accordingly.
LEA Yes (not available for UPside Clear plan). You may withdraw cash from any ATM where you see Visa Debit sign, using your card and PIN (personal identification number). Insert your card into the machine, enter your PIN, and press the cash withdrawal option. You will then be prompted to choose an account from which you want to withdraw funds; select credit card cash advance, enter the amount, and receive your cash. You can withdraw up to $200 for a single withdrawal and up to $500 in a 24-hour period.
U No. There are no fees attached to spending money on your UPside Visa Prepaid Card.
U You are able to check your balance in four ways –
- Online by logging into your UPside online card account
- By calling customer service at 1-866-845-6273
- By using your cell phone’s internet browser and logging into your card account at www.upsidecard.com (cardholders only)
- From your Facebook UPside Application (cardholders only)
U No. You cannot access more than the available balance through your UPside Visa Prepaid Card. However, if you know your available balance before you make a purchase, you may ask the merchant if you can pay the balance of your purchase with cash or another form of payment.
U There is no maximum amount for a single purchase other than the current balance on the card.
U We advise that you keep all of your receipts until your transactions are posted online. Should you need to return an item, return the purchased item to the merchant with the receipt. The merchant will process a credit back to your card for the value of the returned item. The credit should appear on your online statement within a week of the return.
U In order to dispute a transaction, please call customer service at 866-845-6273 and speak to a live agent. You will need the transaction date and amount available.
U Federal law may limit your liability for unauthorized use, but it may not provide for no liability. Under the Visa Zero Liability Policy, you may incur no liability for unauthorized use of your card provided you notify us within a reasonable time of the loss or theft of your card or its unauthorized use. Please refer to the Cardholder Agreements
Terms & Conditions for additional information pertaining to your rights concerning unauthorized use of your card.
U For financial transactions at certain types of merchants, such as restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and mail order retailers, there is an authorization amount and a settled amount and these amounts are usually different. This occurs when the actual amount of your purchase is not immediately available.
For example, this will occur when you use your UPside Visa Prepaid Card at a restaurant. The transaction is authorized for an amount greater than the actual amount because the restaurant does not know yet if you are going to add a tip to your bill after it is run through the system. Therefore, if the actual amount of your restaurant bill is $15, the restaurant may actually authorize it for $20. $20 is the authorization amount that will initially be deducted from your UPside card account. If you add a 15% tip to your bill ($2.25), the actual amount of your bill will be $17.25. When the merchant sends through the actual bill, the settled amount will be $17.25 and the difference between the authorization amount ($20) and the settled amount ($17.25) will be added to your available balance. If the settled amount is greater than the authorization amount, then the difference will be deducted from your available balance. Depending on the merchant, the adjustment could take a couple of days.
If a merchant does not send in a settled amount within a specified number of days (specified by the Issuer), the authorized amount of the transaction (in the example above this would be $20) will be added to your available balance.
U As mentioned above (restaurants and gas stations) you need to remember that some merchants hold a reserve of more money than what you may actually mean to spend. If this does occur with your UPside Visa Prepaid Card the system may hold this reserve amount up to three business days. In some instances a hold could take up to 10 days to fall off.
U Yes. The UPside Visa Prepaid Card is accepted at most merchants worldwide accepting Visa.
U Your Customer Service Access Code (CSAC) is a four-digit number that is used to identify you when you contact customer service. For Edge, Access and Clear, you created your CSAC when you created your online card account. Life cardholders’ CSAC is the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
U Your PIN will be selected automatically for you when you register for a card. You will get your PIN information when you call to activate your card. You are, however, able to change your PIN at any time (see below).
U Yes. You may change your PIN by calling Customer Service at 1-866-845-6273. You may change your PIN once at no cost. Any subsequent changes of your PIN will be charged a fee.
U Please call customer service at 866-845-6273 and follow the automated prompts to “To hear or change your PIN.”
U Please call customer service at 866-845-6273 to mark your card lost/stolen and have a new card shipped.
U Yes. You can suspend your card at anytime online or by calling customer service. Please call customer service to unsuspend your card. For Clear, Access and Edge plans, please note only the card account owner is able to call to unsuspend the card.
U The first step is to remove all of the funds remaining on the card by making an ATM withdrawal or purchase goods or services in a merchant transaction. You may also request a check from UPside for any balance remaining over $8.95 (close card account fee). Please note a $12 check issuance fee may be applied.
Once all funds have been depleted from your card, the card account owner will need to contact UPside Customer Service at 866-845-6273 or email at
cs@upsidecard.com, and request that the card be closed. We will retain any funds under the $8.95 card account closure fee.
U UPside Clear, Access and Edge – The card account owner may load funds onto the card online or by calling customer service. Funds may come from either a checking account or credit card in the name of the card account owner. The cardholder is able to share their DDA information with family, friends and employers.
UPside Life cardholders are able to load funds directly from their online card account via a credit/debit card load (funding card must match UPside card billing address). They are also able to share their DDA information with family, friends and employers.
U Edge, Access and Clear – Cardholders are able to give out their DDA bank details to as many family members, friends and employers as they wish. Life cardholders can load funds directly from their online card account using a debit/credit card, or send their DDA bank information to as many family members, friends and employers as they wish.
U In order to change your funding details to load funds onto your card, you will need to change your details on your online card account – Life cardholders go to “Fund my UPside Card” and Edge, Access and Clear card account owners go to “Manage Payment Methods.” Please note you can only store up to 3 funding sources.

EAC Yes. Once your card account is activated, the card account owner is able to set up an allowance schedule for any period or amount he/she chooses (Clear, Access and Edge only). Please note that if you create an allowance schedule from an ACH bank transfer the load date will be 3-5 business days after the allowance schedule states.
EAC In order to set up your bank account details for loads, you will need to do two things:
- Fax/Send the Bank Account Authorization Form (BAAF) located on the right-side menu of your online card account at www.upsideaccount.com and we will verify your details with your bank. This only needs to be done once.
- Enter your same details to your online card account by selecting “Manage Payment Methods.”
You may initiate a load once you have entered your details online, but it will not complete until we have verified your details. The first load can take up to 7-10 days. Subsequent loads will take 3-5 business days.
EAC We require that a Bank Account Authorization Form (BAAF) be submitted, either by fax or mail, so that we can contact your bank and verify your details. You only need to send this form in once, or whenever you change your banking details.
U The cardholder is able to get Direct Deposit information by logging into his/her online card account and clicking on the "Information for my employer" link in the “Fund my UPside Card” box. The cardholder will need to print this information and give it to his/her employer. This information may also be used for other family members or friends that would like to load funds to the card, perfect for birthdays and special occasions.
U Funds originating from a credit or debit card appear immediately upon loading. Loads from ACH/bank load can take up to 5 days. If the funding source does not have enough money, the load will be denied.
U If it has been over 5 business days for an ACH/DDA bank load to appear on your card balance, please contact customer service at 866-845-6273. For Edge, Access and Life account owners, please make sure that you have submitted your Bank Account Authorization Form and added your banking details online before calling.

U Value load fees and limits will vary depending on which UPside Plan you choose. For more information, see UPside
Terms & Conditions.
